Accident claims one, leaves 5 seriously injured

Accident At BacoletAn accident at Bacolet this morning has claimed the life of one man and put 5 others in hospital with serious injuries. One woman had to be airlifted to the Port of Spain General Hospital. The 2 car smash up occurred around 10am on the Claude Noel Highway close the Dwight Yorke Stadium.

According to Corporal Michael Fraser of the Scarborough traffic branch, Jabari Leslie of Signal Hill succumbed to his injuries after undergoing emergency surgery at the Scarborough hospital. And seriously injured passenger senior librarian with the Scarborough public library, Heather Gray of Louis D’or, Land Settlement was taken by helicopter to the Port- of –Spain General Hospital earlier this evening.

We understand Ms Gray sustained a head injury and facial lacerations. She was unconscious at the time of being removed from the vehicle.A moss green B13 motor car driven by Jairon Phillips and of which Jabari Leslie was the lone passenger was traveling east of Harmony Hall when he overtook another car and lost control of his vehicle. It then came into contact with a silver AD wagon driven by Hugh Hamilton formerly of Pembroke but who now resides at Louis D’or Land Settlement.

Another passenger in the vehicle of Hamilton, Feta Victor of Roxborough, sustained a broken leg and warded at the Scarborough Regional Hospital. The Jaws of Life had to be used by officers of the Scarborough Fire Station to free the drivers who were trapped behind the steering wheel of their vehicles. Investigations are ongoing.

It is up to us to strengthen good road habits in the young. We all know growing up we had a dificiency called LTD "Like To Drive". We need to speak out and create a greater sense of awareness of the effects of dangerous driving in our communities. Our police officers and we as citizens of Tobago have to be more vigilant to curb the road accidents. Lets not wait for our govenment, but we can do things NOW before another father or mother go through these terrible and senseless pain. Gone much too soon. And will forever be remembered

Another senseless accident and the loss of a mother's only child. When will the people of Trinidad and Tobago learn that not every day is a race. Their driving habits are horrible and will never change. RIP Jabari...

So sad that the life of a young individual who had much going for him had to come to a sudden end. Jwebari was a talented,well behaved young man and will be missed and remembered for all which he stood for
