http://www.tobagochannel5.com/images/news/videothumbs/news_020110_s2_1.jpg For over 200 years the Chinese in Trinidad and Tobago have integrated themselves becoming a part of our rainbow society. In Tobago, though the Chinese population is very small they are quickly becoming part of our everyday lives.
And on Friday the wider Tobagonian population joined with the Chinese community from Tobago and Trinidad in celebrating the Chinese New Year at the Signal Hill Secondary Comprehensive School. The Chinese New Year would be officially celebrated on February 14th. As is definitive of the Chinese New year celebration, 2010 has been declared the year of the Tiger.
And those who attended the celebration left having a new appreciation for the Chinese in our country. There was traditional dancing and traditional music using Chinese instruments. And in a move that showed the integration in our society, one of the musical groups learned a calypso, Kitchener’s “Te-le-le” in two hours. Much to the appreciation if the local gathering.
The Chinese New Year can begin anytime between late January and mid-February. And for those of you that may be interested, 2011 would be the year of the Rabbit.
